Forzone – Minucciano , Massa/Lucca/Carrara, Italy 21/06/2013, 5.2ML and aftershocks

An earthquake of magnitude (ML) 5.2 occurred at 10:33:57 UTC July 21st, 2013 at a depth of 5.1 km. The earthquake was located by the National Seismic Network at less than 1km SE of Forzone, between the provinces of Lucca and Massa in the Apuan Alps. The towns closest to the epicenter are Minucciano (Lucca), Casola in Lunigiana (Massa), Fosdinovo (Massa).
The quake was felt across northern Italy from Bologna to Florence, the civil protection agency said, adding that no life-threatening injuries had been reported.
Three people were lightly injured by falling masonry during the quake, while one person suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized.
Damage to houses was limited to Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, while a historic bell tower in the small town of Regnano suffered a partial collapse.
In the 7 day period since the moderate sized quake there have been 1177 aftershocks, mostly in the magnitude 1-2 range.
Of the larger aftershocks there were 2 magnitude 4.0 quakes within the first 4 hours, one 1:38hrs after the main shock at 21/06/2013 12:12:39 located 1.25km NW of the main shock and 1.5km W of Forzone , and a second 3:49hrs after the main shock at 21/06/2013 14:23:22 located less than 1km NE of the mainshock.
The largest aftershock within the following 7 days was a magnitude 4.4 located less than 1km north of Minucciano at 52:27hrs (2 days) after the main shock.
